Professor Dr. Amarendra Narayan became the first regular Vice Chancellor of the Khallikote Cluster University of Berhampur and joined on 14 July 2017. As Vice-Chancellor of the University, he will use his experience and expertise to improve access to the five colleges in the Khallikote Cluster University for students of all economic backgrounds and advocated for enabling quality teaching and research in interdisciplinary, job oriented and industry linked disciplines.
Immediately after joining the University initiated dialogues with various stake holder for promoting collaboration across academic disciplines and administrative units accepting the limitations and challenges of infrastructure, resource crunch and financial challenges. Professor Misra previously served the Central University of Jharkhand in various capacities; as founder Professor & Head of the Department of Life Sciences, Dean Academics, Dean Natural Sciences, Member of various decision making bodies including IQAC, BoS, Academic Council and Executive Council Member and heading the University as Vic-Chancellor, for six years. Before that he served Fakir Mohan University as founder Professor & Head, PG Department of Biosciences & Biotechnology, Chairman PG Council, Dean Sciences, Member of various decision making bodies including Senate and Syndicate, and heading the University periodically as Vic-Chancellor, for seven years. Besides this Professor Misra served as Assistant Professor at Rajasthan Agricultural University, and subsequently as Associate Professor & Professor in Botany at Utkal University. During this period Professor Misra had a brief stint at Department of Botany Pune University as a Professor in Plant Molecular Biology & Biotechnology.
A Plant Biologist by training, Professor Misra received a BSc (Honours) in Botany from Khallikote College Berhampur, MSc and PhD in Botany from Berhampur University. Professor Misra’s research specialization is in Photosynthesis, Adaptation of Tropical Plants to various Stress factors, Bioinstrumentation, Biosignals and Biosensors. He has to his credit more than 165 scientific papers, review articles and 2 books. Professor Misra has 40 years of research and 35 years of teaching at different Universities in India and abroad. He visited, studied and collaborated with Professors/Scientists of more than 15 countries.
Professor Misra’s commitment to research won him prestigious fellowships from European Community, FEBS Travel grant, Japanese Society of Promotion of Sciences, Department of Biotechnology, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, Department of Science & Technology, and Indian National Science Academy. He completed major research projects funded by UGC, CSIR, DST, DBT etc.
Professor Misra worked at Imperial College London, Institute of Grassland & Environmental Research and Wales University at Aberystwyth, Geneva University, JNU New Delhi, BARC Trombay, Jagiollonian University at Krakow, BAS Institute of Biophysics & Biomedical Engineering at Sofia, CAS Institute of Microbiology Trebon, University of Nebraska USA, Osaka University and Tokyo University Japan.
Professor Misra’s work has been widely recognised and awarded by various National & International Societies, Agencies and Academy. Because of his wide academic, scientific and administrative experience, he served in various committees in UGC, NAAC and other national agencies. As a Fulbright Scholar, he participated in Seminars for Academic Administrators in US Universities & Institutions.
